Cherokee National Forest offers spectacular scenery

The Cherokee National Forest offers a tapestry of Mother Nature for the envy of artists and spectators alike. The magnificent natural canvas is the object of adoration for the young and young- at- heart. The Cherokee National Forest stretches across 630,000 acres of some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere on the Eastern Coast. Alternating contours offer a fascinating assortment of wildlife. More than 120 species of birdlife make their home in this national forest. Excellent whitewater rivers are renowned for rafting and kayaking. And there are more than 660 miles of hiking and riding trails, including 14 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

Cascading waterfalls, brilliant rivers and streams will delight. Trout fishermen seek out the stocked and wild streams of the forest. Rainbow, brown and brook trout are common.

The Ocoee Whitewater Center was developed by the Forest Service in cooperation with the State of Tennessee and the Tennessee Valley Authority. It was the site of the 1996 Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Competition. Civil War sites and camps are scattered throughout the forest.

Campgrounds and picnic areas are available. Indian Boundary has a wheelchair accessible fishing pier.

The sparkle and splendor of spring and summer throughout the forest is a magnet for tourists from across the nation. Colorful Rhododendron and mountain laurel dot the hillsides as you travel the Skyway which laces its way from Tellico Plains to Robbinsville.

Enjoy the quiet serenity. Take in the extraordinary views. Have a good time, but please remember to protect and preserve. National forests are gifts to generations to come.
